Video: Big rig accident cleared, traffic in San Francisco and on Bay Bridge messy

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A jack-knifed big rig accident has been in San Francisco heading onto the Bay Bridge but traffic getting onto the lower deck is still a mess.


Traffic in both directions on the Bay Bridge is clogged as of 10:30am. The commute into downtown  is taking 90 minutes to get across San Francisco.

According to California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 5:00 a.m. near the on-ramp of 1st and Sterling Streets in San Francisco. The driver of the big rig spun out and crashed into a wall.

Emergency crews are responding to the scene, and the accident has caused a fuel spill.

CHP crews said four lanes are blocked but the fifth lane on the right hand side eastbound on the lower deck of the Bay Bridge. CHP has also said that it may take two to three hours for the accident to be cleared.

CHP has warned drivers that the accident can cause up to 25 to 30 minute delays on the road.
