Los Altos schools were on lock down due to burglar in area

LOS ALTOS (KRON) — St. Simon Elementary School and Georgina P. Blach Intermediate School in Los Altos were on lockdown due to a burglar in the area on Friday.

Around 11:40 a.m., officers responded to a report of an interrupted residential burglary in the 1000 block of Covington Road just east of Miramonte Avenue, police said.

Officers and a K9 unit searched for the suspect and asked residents in the area to stay inside as the burglar was on the loose in the area

St. Simon Elementary School and Georgina P. Blach Intermediate School went into lockdown as they were told the burglar was on the loose in the area of Covington Street. The lockdown was lifted shortly after, police said.

Around 12:47 p.m., the St. Simon school went into shelter mode as they were told the burglar is out of the area.

St. Simon tweeted on Twitter that they will dismiss students and hold afterschool activities at its normal schedule.

Students and residents were not harmed during the incident, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid 20’s standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall wearing dark clothing and may have a scarf on.

Police believe the suspect left the scene in a car.

Anyone who sees the suspect or has any information is asked to call 911.
