Pacifica police investigating attempted kidnapping of girl on Halloween

PACIFICA (KRON) — Pacifica police are investigating an attempted kidnapping of a girl on Halloween, police said.

Police said it happened at around 4:53 p.m. in the area of Hickey Boulevard and Firecrest Avenue. The suspect drove up to the girl, who was walking on the sidewalk, and began honking the horn of his car.

The suspect then yelled at the girl to get into his car, police said. When the girl did not, the suspect got out of his car, grabbed the girl, and forced her into his car, police said.

The girl was able to get away and run home, police said.

The suspect sped away and was last seen driving on Hickey Boulevard toward SR-35.

The victim was not hurt.

The suspect is described as an Indian man, about 30-to-40 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a trimmed beard. He is a thin build and was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes, police said.

The suspect car is a newer Volkswagen four-door sedan with tinted windows.

It had Texas license plates on it with unknown numbers.

The Pacifica school district issued the following statement to parents:

Many of you may have read the Pacifica Police Department posting regarding the attempted kidnapping yesterday. The posting has been included below. The Pacifica Police Department is continuing the investigation but believe there is no credible threat to our students.

Please take this opportunity to remind your child of being safe. Although we encourage walking to school, we underscore the need for safety. One effective practice is the walking bus, where adults walk with groups of children to and from school. Most important, perhaps, is that younger students should not walk to or from school alone and older students are encouraged to walk with at least one other person. We will also review our school safety procedures with staff and students to ensure that our students are protected during school hours.

Should you have any questions/or concerns regarding general safety, please contact the school principal. Should you have specific information regarding the incident, please follow the directions in the last paragraph of the posting.

If you have any information, you’re asked to call police.
