SAN FRANCISCO (KRON)—San Francisco’s Recreation and Parks Department will start a multi-million dollar project to upgrade three public pools, according to department officials.
Balboa Pool located inside Balboa Park will be the first pool renovated, parks and recreation officials said.
It is one of the city’s most popular pools.
The renovations to the pool will cost about $10.7 million. The money will help pay for upgrading the pool’s building, a new community room and other improvements.
The project is being funded by a 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Park Bond as well as a housing grant from the California Department of Housing and Community Development.
“Balboa Park and Pool have always been a community hub for our residents, and the pool most certainly is in need of upgrades,” District 11 Supervisor John Avalos said in a statement.
The renovations are expected to be finished by fall 2017.
The Garfield Pool renovation will cost $11 million and the Rossi Pool renovation will cost $8.2 million renovation.
The city plans on doing these projects one at a time.
