MARTINEZ (KRON) — A woman is accused of running over her estranged husband and his two friends while crossing the street and then trying to jump off the Benicia Bridge Monday morning.
The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. when three people were in the crosswalk on the Court and Main streets.
The woman driver intentionally hit the three people in the crosswalk including her estranged husband, according to witnesses.
All of the pedestrians were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
The incident happened following a family court hearing nearby. The husband went to the hearing with two friends.
The wife allegedly accelerated her car toward them.
Twenty minutes later, Benicia police received reports of a woman jumping off the Benicia Bridge.
Martinez police, Benicia police, the California Highway Patrol and the United States Coast Guard responded where they found the woman dead.
A car matching the description from the hit and run was found at the scene.
Police found the female driver from the hit and run incident was the same one who jumped off the bridge.
The woman’s identity is not being released until the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office positively identifies the body.
The investigation is still ongoing.
