MARTINEZ (KRON)—The California Highway Patrol has closed eastbound Highway 4 in Martinez because of a multi-car collision that began with a chase Tuesday night.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office began pursuing a reported stolen truck on Highway 4 near I-80.
The CHP laid out spike strips on the eastbound direction of the highway to help Contra Costa County deputies.
The stolen truck touched the strips and collided with multiple cars already stuck in traffic on Highway 4 near I-680.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office detained the driver of the stolen truck and took him into custody.
It is unknown at this time how many cars are involved in the crash and how many people are injured.
As of 7:06 p.m., all lanes eastbound of Highway 4 reopened.
