VIDEO: Workers fall ill during hazmat incident at San Francisco’s Pier 96

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Fire Department is responding to a hazardous material incident at San Francisco’s Pier 96.

The incident began at around 8 a.m. at the Recology Center transfer station on Cargo Way, according to San Francisco Fire Department officials.

26 workers fell ill after coming into contact with an unknown material. Workers complained of shortness of breath and dizziness.

The injuries are non-life threatening. Two of the workers have been transported to a local hospital to be treated.

Emergency crews have set up a triage.

Fire officials say there is no threat to the public as the unknown material is isolated to the pier.
