INDIANAPOLIS (KRON)– A four-year-old little girl in Indianapolis shot herself and her sleeping mother, according to Indianapolis police.
The girl shot herself in the face, and her mother was hit in the back of the head.
A two-year-old boy was also in the room, but was not injured.
Officers believe she grabbed the gun right off the nightstand.
Police explain the importance of taking precautions to avoid heartbreaking accidents like this.
“It’s extremely tragic. Obviously, we want to make sure we stress the importance of gun safety. It’s critical. We want to make sure if they have guns in the house make sure they lock their guns up, make sure that they’re not exposed where children can grab them or reach them. It’s critical, very critical,” Indianapolis police said.
The child and her mother are in the hospital.
They are both expected to survive.
