Attempted child abduction at Monterey library deemed a hoax

MONTEREY (KRON)—An incident where two children reported someone trying to take them in a Monterey library has been deemed a hoax, according to police.

The two children, who are siblings, told officers a man tried to lure them into his car parked in front of an library on Pacific St., police said.

The pair left the library and walked three blocks to Monterey High School, where the alleged incident to someone working on campus.

Officers found from further investigation that the attempted abduction never happened, police said.

The kids made up the story and did not understand how serious the case was, police said.
