Gavin Newsom advocating for sanctuary campuses

(KRON)—Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom is calling on California schools to make sure that students feel safe from the threat of deportation.

Catherine Heenan has the details on what Newsom is saying in the wake of the Trump election.

The Lt. Governor has met with undocumented students and advocates.

He’s now talking about their concern over President-elect Trump’s proposed deportation force.

Newsom is calling on the University of California and California State University system to formally declare public campuses as “sanctuary campuses.”

He’s written letters to university officials saying California has a ‘moral and economic imperative’ to protect students.

The Lt. Governor also wants universities to protect student information from abuse by the federal government and he’s calling for training for campus police and administrative officials on
‘not’ cooperating with immigration enforcement.
