SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon announced two highly trained K-9s have been sworn in to help the Victim Services Division on Thursday.
The newest members of the division, 14-month-old Red and 18-month-old Pink, are part of an effort to help decrease trauma and stress of those who have been victims of crimes.
“Our legal system can be a complex and intimidating environment, especially for vulnerable victims, kids, the elderly and anyone who has been subjected to trauma,” said District Attorney George Gascón. “Facility dogs can help reduce the anxiety that is often associated with the difficult circumstances under which people come into contact with the system.”
Many studies have found canine therapy has positive effects on victims’ mental and physical health.
