Alleged Bay Area sex offender makes first court appearance

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A man who was arrested for allegedly having sex with a teenage girl made his first court appearance today.

KRON4’s  Will Tran was at the hearing at Alameda County Superior Court in Hayward.

Ian Teager, a 40-year-old resident of Patterson, was arrested two weeks ago after he allegedly met a young girl online while pretending to be a 14-year-old boy.

In court today, he did not enter a plea bargain, and had no lawyer present. Teager makes too much money to qualify for a public defender.

Teager met the 13-year-old girl on Kik, which is a social media chat room. He then met the girl in San Leandro and took her to an Oakland motel where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

He was arrested that night.

Police recovered computers and cellphones as evidence and believe that Teager has also victimized other teen girls in the Bay Area and the Central Valley, he said.
