SAN FRANCISCO (KRON)–The weather delayed holiday travelers on close to 200 flights in and out of San Francisco International Airport Sunday afternoon.
The weather has cleared up for most of the night, but earlier travelers were delayed anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.
Arthur Stevens is visiting his mom in the bay area for the holidays.
“I haven’t seen my mother in a year, so it was implied it just kind of came around this year,” Stevens said.
His flight was one of 194 delayed both arriving and departing from the San Francisco airport Sunday afternoon.
“I delayed my flight till about 2:45 but that was pretty much it,” Stevens said.
Livian Montoya was waiting on a visitor.
“I been waiting extra I don’t know if it was the weather probably was,” Montoya said.
Rain and low hanging clouds were to blame.
Many travelling for the holidays were temporarily inconvenienced coming in from some parts of the country.
Some for minutes and others up to an hour.
“But you know it’s God or whoever it is controlling that we have no power over it we just have to adapt,” Montoya said.
SFO anticipates 6.5 million people travelling this season between November and January.
That’s up by 5.7 percent from last year.
The weather cleared up and the ground delay was cancelled after 3 p.m.
