SAN RAMON (KRON) — A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for DUI after crashing and injuring a passenger in San Ramon on Monday afternoon, police said.
Police said the crash happened just before 4 p.m. Officers responded to a single-car crash on Windemere Parkway near Longleaf Circle.
When police arrived, they said they found the 16-year-old male passenger had suffered major injuries. Fire crews extracted the passenger from the car, police said.
The passenger was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center and is listed as being in critical condition.
“While the initial collision investigation was being conducted, a subject drove to the scene of the collision and admitted to being the driver of the involved vehicle. He also admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the collision,” police said.
Witnesses helped identify the driver, police said. The suspect told police he felt pain as a result of the crash and was also taken to the hospital.
Both the driver and passenger are from San Ramon.
“Detectives from the San Ramon Police Department authored a search warrant to obtain a sample of the driver’s blood, which was signed by the on-call Judge. While at the John Muir Medical Center, a sample of the driver’s blood was drawn by a certified phlebotomist for evidentiary purposes,” police said.
The suspect will be charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury, police said.
