(WLNS) – Former MSU and USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar has been arrested and is in custody at the Ingham County Jail.
He will be arraigned tomorrow morning on charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct-1st Degree.
The 53-year-old Nassar has been under scrutiny this year after two gymnasts, including a member of the 2000 U.S. women’s Olympic team, accused him of sexual abuse. A lawsuit by one is pending in California.
Nassar has repeatedly denied the allegations.
Michigan State University fired him in September. USA Gymnastics cut ties in 2015.
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette plans to talk to reporters about the Nassar investigation Tuesday.
USA Gymnastics is turning to a former federal prosecutor to spearhead an independent review of the way the organization deals with allegations of sexual misconduct.
Its president, Steve Penny, announced last month that Deborah Daniels will look into USA Gymnastics’ bylaws, policies, procedures and practices related to sexual misconduct.
Daniels, who served as both a U.S. attorney and U.S. assistant attorney general before going into private practice, will meet with experts and organizations representing law enforcement, child welfare, the gymnastics community, state and local officials, and others before making a recommendation to the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors.
