NAPA COUNTY (KRON) — The Napa County District Attorney’s Office is warning seniors about a Social Security phone scam by sophisticated and aggressive con artists, according to District Attorney Gary Lieberstein said.
The scam involves informing seniors their social security benefits have been suspended. The callers are attempting to get personal information on the seniors savings, Lieberstein said.
Even if the scammers’ phone call is not answered, they leave an urgent callback request. Seniors are strongly advised not to give their personal information and hang up immediately, Lieberstein said.
The Social Security Administration never solicits personal information over the phone or by email unless residents initiate the contact, Lieberstein said.
Seniors with questions about their benefits should contact the Social Security Administration a 1-800-772-1213 or visit www.ssa.gov.
