Inmates escape Santa Clara Co. Main Jail

SANTA CLARA COUNTY (KRON) — The sheriff’s deputies are looking for two inmates Thursday morning who escaped from the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose.

Four inmates escaped Wednesday night at around 11:08 p.m. from a 2nd-floor window in the oldest section of the Main Jail, according to authorities.

The inmates cut through the window’s bars to make the escape, deputies said. They then used bed sheets to scale the wall. That’s when they were noticed by an on-duty deputy.

Correctional deputies were able to immediately apprehended two of the inmates outside of the jail. The two other inmates got away.

The Sheriff’s Office, San Jose Police Department, and Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety are all actively searching for the inmates. They have set up a perimeter and are using a helicopter and numerous K9s to help track the inmates.

The escaped inmates are 33-year-old Rogelio Chavez of San Jose and 26-year-old Laron Campbell of Palo Alto.

Rogelio Chavez was booked into jail on Aug. 17 on various charges including Burglary, Extortion, False Imprisonment, Resisting Arrest, and Firearms violations. Chavez is a Hispanic male, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 190 pounds, with a distinctive facial tattoo above and below his left eye.

Lanon Campbell was booked into jail Feb. 12, 2015. Campbell was held on various charges including Robbery, False Imprisonment, Criminal Threats and Firearms violations. Campbell is an African American male, 6 feet 4 inches tall and 220 pounds.

Anyone who sees them is used to use extreme caution and do not try to apprehend them. Call 9-1-1 immediately.
