Standing Rock ND (KRON) — Dakota Access Pipeline protesters got a special surprise this Thanksgiving.

Hollywood actress and advocate Jane Fonda flew in from Los Angeles to visit Standing Rock. However, she ended up taking advantage of an opportunity to serve meals to the weary protesters at Standing Rock Middle School in Fort Yates. After serving for just a few minutes she was told people can serve themselves. Fonda laughed, “I’ve never had a job in such a short time.”

The event was a peaceful ceremony filled with food, music, and harmony. “It’s been centuries since this many tribes have joined together in prayer, in peace, in non-violence to protect their sacred land and sacred water,” Fonda said.

Only about 200 people were expected to attend, but the turn-out ended up being more like 2,500. The main chef, Jeremy Stanton, was happy to cook for the colossal crowd. He said he used all indigenous ingredients, served a sign of peace. “I think every good negotiation should start after the meal is finished, when people are fed and happy and ready to talk. It doesn’t matter how much money you have invested or how much money you have to lose. These are human beings and today I’m here to feed them.” He added that the most important ingredient, is love.
