SUNNYVALE (KRON)—Two men have died after their car crashed into a median in Sunnyvale Saturday night, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
The crash was reported just around 5:35 p.m. on Central Expressway east of Bernardo Avenue.
The driver of a two-door coupe was traveling east on the freeway when he lost control of the car and hit a tree in the center median of the road, Capt. Vince Chetcuti said.
The car caught on fire.
One bystander was able to help one of the men out of the car before public safety officers got the other man out.
Paramedics tried saving the lives of the two men, but they were both pronounced dead at the scene, Chetcuti said.
Both directions of the freeway between North Bernardo Avenue and North Mary Avenue are closed indefinitely.
