SALINAS (KRON)—A woman died when a man ran over her Saturday morning while driving a pickup truck in Salinas, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 6:20 a.m. on the northbound ramp to U.S. Highway 101 from West Laurel Drive, Sgt. Robert Lehman said.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was about to accelerate when he saw something in the road.
He didn’t know what it was. The driver wasn’t able to apply the brakes in time, Lehman said.
The woman was crawling on the on-ramp when she was hit, Lehman said.
The driver was not speeding and was not drinking alcohol at the time of the collision.
The woman might have been homeless because there is a large homeless population nearby, Lehman said.
The CHP is not identifying the woman.
