IVA, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say a 31-year-old South Carolina man was shot to death after running from a car and getting into a fight with a sheriff’s deputy.
Sheriff’s Lt. Shelia Cole said the man was a passenger in a car the Anderson County deputy was trying to pull over near Iva on Tuesday afternoon.
Cole says one shot was fired, but investigators don’t know if it came from the deputy’s weapon. She says the deputy suffered a cut to the head and went to the hospital, but the injury shouldn’t be life-threatening.
Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore says an autopsy on the man will be performed Wednesday. Cole says the driver is in custody. Authorities did not release his identity or that of the deputy.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
