UNION CITY (BCN) — Police have identified a man killed Monday night in a triple-shooting at a shopping center in Union City as 21-year-old Sajeel Rehman from Fremont.
Investigators allege that Rehman was at the Union Landing Shopping Center, near Interstate Highway 880 and Whipple Road, as part of a pre-arranged drug transaction between two groups when the shooting was reported at 8:57 p.m.
Rehman had driven a black Lexus into the parking lot with two other people in the vehicle when he parked next to a gray Dodge truck containing three suspects, identified as 24-year-old Travis Vales from Clayton and Hayward residents Alvin Simao, 47, and Stevi Simao, 18.
A struggle ensued and Vales fired a high-powered rifle at the Lexus, killing Rehman. A passenger sitting in the front seat was also injured as well as another individual parked nearby.
The suspects fled in the Dodge, but a few minutes later they were stopped nearby and arrested without incident.
Rehman died at the scene, but the other two victims were transported to hospitals and listed in stable condition.
Vales, Alvin Simao and Stevi Simao have been charged with murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of an assault weapon and robbery, among other charges, police said.
