CHARLOTTE, N.C.(KRON)—Bakkavor Foods USA, Inc. is voluntarily recalling the Trader Joe’s Mediterranean Hummus and the Trader Joe’s White Bean and Basil Hummus, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The items were voluntarily recalled because of possible listeria contamination. The recalled items have the use by code through and including December 15, 2016.
Listeria can cause serious and fatal infections in children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.
Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headaches, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
The hummus was distributed at Trader Joe’s stores in California, Arizona, Oregon, Utah, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Washington.
No illnesses have been reported from eating the hummus.
Consumers who have the recalled item are urged to discard it immediately or return it.
