SAN JOSE (KRON) — A high school teacher at Santa Teresa High School in San Jose has been arrested for an alleged sexual relationship with a student, according to Superintendent Chris D. Funk.
Trudy Hill, 32, has been arrested and booked on felony charges of sexual assault with a minor and oral copulation. She has been placed on leave from her job, Funk said.
The investigation began about 10 days ago when the school district received an email through a Facebook posting about an alleged relationship with a 17-year-old male student.
The popular English teacher was not at the school at the time. She had taken a medical leave of absence three weeks into the school year and hadn’t returned since, however, she kept in contact with the student.
“We are shocked and deeply disturbed by these allegations. We want to assure the community that the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority,” Funk wrote.
Hill surrendered to the San Jose Police Department on Thursday where she posted bail and was released.
“According to the charges and the information available, the teacher was allegedly involved in an inappropriate relationship with a minor student. The District has been assisting and cooperating with the San Jose Police Department in its investigation in this matter,” Funk wrote.
The district is supporting the student and his family, Funk said.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call San Jose police Detective Brian Spears at (408) 537-1397.
