MUMBAI, INDIA (WCMH) — A new species of spider is taking the web by storm after scientists in India took inspiration from one of the most popular book series of all time.
According to CNN, scientists have christened the new spider Eriovixia gryffindori, a shout-out to the Harry Potter series. The spider’s triangular shape resembles the famed Sorting Hat.
“This uniquely shaped spider derives its name from the fabulous, sentient magical artifact, the Sorting Hat, owned by the (ficticious) medieval wizard Godrick Gryffindor, one of the four founders of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,” said a report from the Indian Journal of Arachnology.
J.K. Rowling herself is excited about the tribute.

The shape and coloring of the spider serve to camouflage the arachnid against leafy backgrounds. The spider eats insects and other, smaller spiders.
