(KRON) Westbound Interstate 580 is plagued by potholes Wednesday morning.
The two right lanes at Greenville Road in Livermore are blocked. The closure was reported at 5 a.m.
Our traffic reporter Robin Winston says this has been a major issue all morning and will continue causing bad backups throughout the commute hours.
Potholes plague 580
The backup extends all the way to Tracy.
The Highway Patrol has two right lanes of westbound Interstate 580 closed until this afternoon.
Caltrans spokesman Marcus Wagner said the pothole resulted from the rain and the old age of the roadway.
A CHP spokesman, Officer Derek Reed, said the two right lanes may be closed until 9 p.m.
Crews started repairing the 4-by-12-foot pothole this morning and expected to have it repaired by about 4 p.m., but that has since been revised to 9 p.m.
Wagner also said Caltrans crews are in the process of repaving Highway 580 from the Greenville Road exit to the Alameda County line with San Joaquin County.
