CHP: 1 of 2 suspects in Stockton officer-involved shooting is escaped Palo Alto inmate

 

STOCKTON (KRON) — The California Highway Patrol says it has spotted one of the inmates who escaped from custody in Palo Alto earlier in November.

Officers in Stockton chased a vehicle on Trinity Parkway, and the driver jumped out and ran into a Walmart.

That person was arrested. But KRON4 is told the passenger hopped in the driver’s seat and took off.

That’s when an officer fired his weapon.

Authorities say the person who hopped into the driver’s seat is John Bivins who, along with Tramel McClough, has been on the run for weeks.

It’s not clear if the person arrested in Walmart is McClough

Bivins was driving a green 1999 Ford Explorer, license plate 7TYY505.

At approximately 1716 hours, CHP units attempted a traffic enforcement stop of a vehicle on northbound I-5 south of Eight Mile Road. A short pursuit ensued onto southbound Trinity Parkway where the driver exited and ran into Walmart and was later apprehended. The passenger entered the driver seat and fled in the vehicle on southbound Trinity Parkway. On Trinity Parkway just south of McAuliffe Road an officer involved shooting occurred. A CHP Officer was involved and discharged his weapon. The suspect fled in the vehicle on northbound Trinity Parkway. This incident in still under investigation and more details will be released as soon as possible.
