SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A down tree on Highway 101 in San Francisco is creating a major back-up for commuters on multiple freeways Monday morning.

CHP issued a traffic alert around 7:30 a.m. because the tree is blocking at least one of the right lanes on southbound 101 just south of the Cesar Chavez exit.

This is right before the 280 split.

Caltrans crews are responding to assist the San Francisco Fire Department and CHP.

Traffic is crawling on southbound 101 and there is a major back-up for those trying to leave San Francisco.

Interstate 80 is impacted as well, intensifying traffic on the already congested Bay Bridge.

KRON4’s Robin Winston suggests taking southbound 280 to get out of San Francisco.

There is no estimation as to when the tree will be cleared from the freeway.

Stay with KRON4 for updates.
