Bay Area firefighters on their way to battle vicious Ventura Co. wildfire

ALAMEDA COUNTY (KRON) — Firefighters from several Bay Area fire departments are on their way to Southern California to help crews battle a vicious, fast-moving wildfire.

Crews from Alameda County, Fremont, Hayward, and Oakland left around 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning for Ventura County, where the Thomas Fire has already torn through 31,000 acres.

One person died in a car crash trying to evacuate the fire that first broke out Monday night.

Flames exploded over night, leading to the destruction of 150 structures.

Relentless winds, moving as fast as 60 mph, are keeping making the massive blaze even harder to tame.

Crews are attacking by ground and air, yet the fire remains zero percent contained.
