VIDEO: Oakland city workers strike to continue for third day tomorrow

OAKLAND (KRON) — The Oakland city workers strike will continue for a third day on Thursday, according to KRON4’s Justine Waldman.

About 3,000 Oakland city workers were on strike and picketing for a second day after failing to agree on a new labor contract.

Negotiations between the union and Mayor Libby Schaaf ended just after 3:30 p.m.

Negotiations will continue at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Union leaders say non-emergency workers in senior centers, libraries, City Hall and other city-run departments will strike again Thursday.

The city and union have agreed to a 4 percent salary increase in the first year but are stuck on increases for the second year. The city has offered a 2 percent increase if certain revenue conditions are met, but the union wants the city to commit to another 4 percent increase.

Talks broke down Monday after the city refused a union proposal to bring in an informal mediator.

The unions say they will not go back to the table without a new offer from the city.

The last time negotiations took place was on Friday.
