VIDEO: 29 hurt after bus falls on its side on southbound 101 in San Francisco


SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A bus has fallen on its side on Highway 101 South near Cesar Chavez in San Francisco, according to San Francisco firefighters.

The accident happened just north of Cesar Chavez Street at around 8:08 p.m.

At least 29 people are hurt. Four people are in serious condition, nine are in moderate condition, and 16 suffered minor injuries, firefighters said.

Over 50 passengers were inside the bus.

Three people had to be extricated by firefighters.

No deaths have been reported.

The bus started fishtailing, hit the center divide, and went back over to the right shoulder where it tipped over. That is all still under investigation.

Only one lane is open at this time. The road will be closed until at least midnight.

Drivers should expect major delays.

A RED ALERT has been activated.

Firefighters are on-scene and they say a private bus was involved.
