Big rig crash causes oil spill on Hwy 101 in Palo Alto

PALO ALTO (KRON)– Caltrans crews worked to clean up an oil spill after a big rig overturned early Thursday morning on Highway 101 in Palo Alto.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. just south of the University exit.

According to California Highway Patrol, the big rig driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel and lost control of the truck. The driver then slammed into a concrete barrier.

Part of the big rig was punctured and several gallons of diesel spilled onto the highway. The driver was not injured in the accident.

Street sweepers managed to clear the area by 5:20 a.m.
